The recent Elevating Work Platform Association (EWPA) conference was filled with excitement as Fata Paea, the National Industrial Manager at The Power Source, took the spotlight to present on the critical topic of Industrial Batteries. The conference, held in Melbourne, attracted professionals from across the industry, eager to deepen their understanding of the technologies powering modern machinery.

Fata Paea, recognized for his extensive expertise and engaging manner, captivated the audience as he explored the complexities of battery chemistries in industrial settings. His presentation explored the various battery types that are essential to the operation of different machinery, with a particular focus on the lithium technology trend.

Battery Chemistries in Focus

Paea’s presentation started with an overview of the main battery chemistries used in industrial equipment, including Flooded Lead Acid, Absorbed Glass Matt, and Lithium-ion. Each chemical, he explained, has its strengths and applications, and understanding these differences is vital for companies that depend on reliable and efficient power sources.

Lithium Batteries: The Key Talking Point

The focus on lithium-ion batteries sparked a lively discussion among EWPA members. Fata elaborated on how this technology is appearing up at a manufacturing level in more and more machines in the Hire & Rental industry. He emphasized that lithium batteries are not just more efficient, but also reduce downtime for machinery, which is critical in maintaining productivity in industries that rely on these platforms.

Paea also touched on safety concerns, particularly around the thermal management of Lithium-ion batteries, which have been a topic of concern in recent years. He explained that replacing these batteries locally, isn’t always easy and sourcing a direct replacement with CAN Comms can be problematic. Replacing traditional Lead Acid with light weight Lithium batteries is also not easy, with counterbalance weight a huge safety factor.

Engaging with the Audience

One of the highlights of Fata’s presentation was his interactive approach. He encouraged questions throughout the session, sparking conversations around real world applications of lithium batteries in elevating work platforms. Members of the EWPA were eager to engage with him on topics such as battery maintenance, cost considerations, and the future of energy storage technologies.

The Power Source’s ongoing commitment to innovation in this space was evident in Fata’s presentation. His insights provided valuable guidance to the EWPA members, equipping them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about the power systems driving their machinery.

With experts like Fata leading the conversation, the future of industrial machinery looks brighter and more powerful – than ever
